Letter on Advancing Inclusivity
Recently on June 11, SWCSD2 held a workshop showcasing their commitment to creating a supportive and legally compliant educational environment. The reason for this workshop was to address concerns that parents and citizens of Green River have over the Biden administration’s rewrite of Title IX which asserts for the first time that Title IX’s ban on sex discrimination in federally funded education programs includes sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI). In the 50 years that Title IX has been in effect, Congress has declined to expand the definition of sex to include other categories. The courts also stated that the rewrite of Title IX could violate the First Amendment by requiring students and teachers to deny their religious beliefs or be forced to affirm a student’s gender identity through the use of preferred pronouns. But the Biden administration has continued to push its LGBT agenda. Having SOGI included in Title IX will have a slew of negative effects on education, including violating the First Amendment’s religious freedom and free speech clauses, posing threats to the safety and privacy of women and girls, wresting authority from Congress, weakening parental rights, and superseding several state laws that protect women and girls. Further, while Title IX contains a robust religious exemption for Christian institutions, it does not protect individual students or faculty at secular institutions, who may be faced with the decision to follow their religious beliefs or violate federal law. Wyoming is among 26 states that have sued the Department of Education over Title IX, but the cases are pending and the Department of Education is expected to appeal multiple court rulings throughout the country. This gross overreach into our lives by the government is appalling. Even though it is heartbreaking to see this in our great country, I am thankful that Green River Christian Academy exists to teach truth from the Bible to our students. Along with truth from God’s Word, we also teach strong academics and patriotic values to our students. Located at 800 Homestead Drive, the Academy is open to all interested pupils. For years, scholars from Rock Springs have commuted to the school. Previous students, now adults, are sending their own children because they recognize the school's quality education. For years, students entering state and regional competitions have brought home numerous awards. Founded in 1995, the school's multi-grade classrooms allow children's social skills to mature earlier and enable the learners to become more independent. GRCA offers affordable tuition (half the price of comparable private institutions) as well as scholarships and multi-child discounts. Students receive far more individual attention than larger schools. New students are currently being accepted. Parents are encouraged to call (307) 875-4405 for further information about the Green River Christian Academy. |
